TJ Shirley, known online as TJ Tutorials and TJtutorials, is a skincare expert, aesthetician and skincare technology educator specialising in home use skincare devices, skin tightening, collagen boosting treatments and the science of ageing skin.
With a background in science and biology teaching, professional aesthetic training and years of personal experience, TJ explains how skincare devices work, what they can realistically do and how to use them safely and consistently.
Born in Croydon, London in August 1981, TJ later spent 14 years living and working in Thailand as a science and biology teacher at a University in Bangkok. His students gave him the nickname TJ, short for Teacher Josh… and TJ was born. But TJ Tutorials was still many years away and becoming an online social media personality and content creator hadn’t even crossed his mind.
Teaching, education and making complex subjects easier to understand remain at the heart of everything he does, whether its explaining technology in skincare devices to modalities to clients.
So what has driven TJ to become a trusted voice in the world of anti-ageing skincare? To start with, TJ has lived with erythematotelangiectatic rosacea, facial telangiectasia and adult cystic acne for more than 3 decades. These experiences have given him a personal understanding of the confidence, frustration and uncertainty that can come with ongoing skin concerns.
He also has real, genuine, mature skin and isn’t another tween pushing products designed to tackle wrinkles, texture, and loss of collagen.
His work combines professional knowledge with lived experience, allowing him to approach skincare devices and treatments with curiosity, honesty and empathy.
TJ’s skincare journey began in 2017 in the mountains of Baião in northern Portugal. It started with a single bipolar radiofrequency machine and grew into a lasting passion for anti ageing skincare and beauty technology.
Since then, TJ has tested more than 180 home use skincare devices and skin tightening devices. He reviews technology across categories including radiofrequency, LED light therapy, microcurrent, electrical treatments and other collagen boosting modalities.
Through TJ Tutorials, TJ creates educational and entertaining content that helps viewers make informed decisions about skincare products, devices and treatments.
He has worked with, tested or reviewed products from brands including Medicube, NIRA, AMIRO, Calecim, CurrentBody, Tria, TriPollar, Maysama, Shark and Siemens, alongside many other global skincare and beauty technology brands. He is also an ambassador for Laduora and advocate for more transparency regarding device power outputs and modalities so consumers have all they need for more informed purchases.
TJ has also attended the UK Beauty Awards at the HAC in London over the last several years and has developed professional relationships across the beauty industry, including with other educators, creators and recognised personalities such as cousin Kellie Shirley, and fellow YouTuber and Aesthetician, Cassandra Bankson.
An avid traveller, he has also flown out to New York on several occasions for exclusive brand launches for NIRA and Medicube, as well as a special event at the Medicube HQ in Seoul.
Over the past four years, TJ has trained and qualified as an aesthetician, with a focus on electrical and frequency focused non surgical treatments for skin tightening and complexion refinement.

TJ’s YouTube channel has grown to a community of more than 55,000 subscribers. His reviews are valued for being honest, transparent and focused on the details that matter: how a device works, who it may suit, how often it should be used and what results are realistic.
Education is at the forefront of TJ’s work. His goal is not to encourage people to buy every new device, but to help them understand their options and choose technology that makes sense for their skin, lifestyle and goals.
While very much an introvert, TJ loves his role as a social media ‘skinfluencer’ and YouTube personality, and hopes to continue evolving and sharing trusted product reviews, vlogs, and podcast appearances while continually developing his skills as a skincare expert.
